Important Calendar Reminders: GCS reminds families that Thursday, December 19, is a Two-Hour Early Release for Required Faculty Senates. The holiday break begins Friday, December 20, and school reconvenes on Thursday, January 2. Schools will be closed on Monday, January 20, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Greenbrier County Schools reminds families that Friday, November 22, is a Teacher-Parent Conference Day. Students do not attend school on the 22nd. Thanksgiving Break begins Monday, November 25, and ends Friday, November 29. Enjoy a relaxing Fall Break!

Our Child Nutrition Office shares the following helpful tips for packing a healthy school lunch: - Choose whole grains: Pack brown rice, quinoa, or whole-grain pita pockets instead of white bread.  - Add protein: Beans, hummus, nuts, egg whites, grilled chicken, or lean pork are all good protein sources.  - Limit processed meats: Avoid cold cuts, bacon, and other processed meats.  - Use healthy oils: Cook with olive or canola oil, and use healthy oils on salads.  - Drink water: Drink water or drinks with little or no sugar. - Limit dairy and juice: Limit milk and dairy to 1-2 servings daily, and juice to 1 small glass daily.  - Pack a variety of fruits. Instead of fresh fruit, Try fruit leathers or fruit sauces, but make sure they are low in added sugar.  - Add a veggie dip: Hummus and veggie sticks are a protein-packed option.  - Make lunch fun: Make a kabob by placing sandwich components on a stick.  - Make pasta salad: You can make pasta salad ahead of time and add vegetables to make it healthier.  - Create a snack station: Create a station with healthy snacks like granola bars, cheese sticks, yogurt cups, or whole grain crackers.  Visit the Child Nutrition page on our website at www.greenbriercountyschools.org for more ideas and resources.

Stick with your friends and look out for each other. -Stay Visible: Wear bright costumes or add reflective tape to your outfit. Carry a flashlight to help you see and be seen. -Check Your Treats: Before diving into your candy haul, make sure to inspect all treats for any signs of tampering. -Respect Others: Be mindful of your neighbors and their property. Seniors and Pre-K will have their photos taken this coming Tuesday, October 29th. We are bringing back the tradition of drapes and tuxes. More information can be found in the students' grade level google classroom. Seniors will receive PROOFS of their photos before ordering. So, they will not have an order form. Grades 9 through 11 photos will be on Monday, November 4th. Underclassmen will be receiving order forms soon, and will need to bring the form and payment to the photographers if they wish to order photos. Make Up Photo Day will be on Tuesday, November 12th.

VETERAN'S DAY ASSEMBLY GEHS will be hosting an event on November 7th to recognize and honor those who have fought for this country. The assembly will begin at 10:00 in the gymnasium. Veterans and their families are invited to gather for breakfast in the cafeteria prior to the assembly. Greenbrier County Schools is pleased to partner with the Greenbrier Family Support Center and WVU Extension Office to provide support, resources, and connections to grandparents and anyone responsible for raising another person’s child. Please join us at the Renick Community Center’s non-food pantry on October 24 from 3 to 5 p.m. to discuss what resources and support are needed for grandfamilies in the Renick area.

This week, we highlight the value of good character and its essential role in building strong communities that value positive, healthy relationships and respectful behavior. We celebrate young people who are role models of good character in their communities and support the parents and educators who teach our young people to be trustworthy, respectful, responsible, fair, caring, and good citizens.
